This anthology is set in the elaborate myth that is Star Wars, but not all of the stories are cannon. Some of them take place in an alternate Star Wars universe; others involve characters only seen in the novels.
The approach leaves room for a nice range, including a few cliffhangers. A young Obi-Wan and his mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn, get philosophical as they face down a horde of rude sloths and then take out a large monster. Mara Jade, a woman warrior in service to the empire, does a little bureaucratic house cleaning on a backwater world. Darth Vader is ordered to destroy one of the last Jedi, a woman living on an idyllic garden world. And the true hero of the entire saga is finally revealed with the telling of “Skippy: The Jedi Droid.”
Contributors include novelist Timothy Zahn, cartoonist Jim Woodring, and writers Peter David and Ron Marz.
