This series began with a predominantly black-and-white preview edition of writer Brian Holguin and artist Jay Anacelto’s Aria which is simply beautiful; it’s a quick look at the characters who will populate an intriguing new series from Image Comics and Avalon Studios. In Aria, myth mixes with reality; gods and Faeries walk the streets of contemporary Manhattan, and a 900-year-old expatriate Faerie princess named Kildare operates a bookstore called Otherworld in Greenwich Village. Anacelto’s artwork is haunting and lovely, and Brian Holguin’s excellent writing is showcased in an engaging short story starring Kildare and other creatures from the “[other] side of the metaphysical fence.”
