Girl is a three-issue mini-series that helped usher in DC’s Vertigo Vérité line of comics in late 1996. Created by the team of artist Duncan Fegredo (Enigma, Face) and writer Milligan (Shade, the Changing Man (2nd Series)), it’s the story of a fifteen-year-old girl and her battle to escape her dull and pointless life.
Simone Cundy lives in an English industrial town well past its prime. The place, fittingly enough, is called Bollockstown. Her father’s a drunken mess, her mother a too-meek, domestically abused housewife without a clue. Neither of them would even notice if Simone were to eat rat poison, as she once planned to do. Understandably, Simone has been spending a lot of her time in a fantasy land of her own creation. But in this challenging and intriguing series, she comes to decide that it’s time to find a life for herself—and maybe burn Bollockstown down while she’s at it.
