After four hundred and seventy-four issues, the “powers that be” over at Marvel Comics decided to retire “The Incredible” from the book’s title and move Bruce Banner and his monstrous alter ego into a bold new chapter of comics’ history. Who better to charge with this task than John Byrne, the king of revamps? But why start over with a title that has been doing so well, you ask? Perception is everything.
Tying up all the loose ends in the character’s post-Heroes Return life, Banner has been left without direction, without purpose and without any active pursuers. This sets the stage for a return to the creature’s savage roots. No more intelligent, in control Hulk; instead, expect to see a scrawny, book-smart Banner struggling to gain control of the emotionless and destructive creature resting deep within his subconscious.
After a dozen non-incredible issues, the series retitled again as “Incredible Hulk, The ( 2nd Series)”.
