With the standard X-Men story line groaning under the weight of endless crossovers and spinoffs, and mid-1990s Marvel apparently running away from its 30 years of continuity, the straightforward and non-revisionist approach of Uncanny Origins, X-Men Adventures, and the other animation-based titles, though meant for new readers, is both refreshing and reassuring to longtime fans.
Uncanny Origins presents stories of how the X-Men, beginning with Cyclops, discovered their mutant powers and joined Professor Xavier’s team. The stories in Uncanny Origins stick to the standard version developed by Marvel since the 1960s, and feature open, colorful artwork that is diametrically opposed to the dark and Image-conscious style found in the more “mainstream” mutant titles.
