Untold Tales Of Spider-Man is set in the early days of the webslinger’s career as a crimefighting super-hero. Peter Parker is still in high school and is just beginning to adjust to his newfound powers. The series is written in the old, Ditko-Lee style where Parker, as Spider-Man is a wisecracking hero whose only real responsibilities are to get good grades and help his aging Aunt May. The series introduces new villains, as well as brings back some of the classic criminals from Spidey’s rogues’ gallery.
Released during a veritable flood of Spider-titles in 1995, sales on Untold Tales were slow in the beginning. However, they soon picked up due to two main factors: the unusually cheap cove price of 99¢, and the highly entertaining writing of Kurt Busiek (Marvels, Astro City).
